From Driver to PADI Instructor

Smith Buranastidporn

Just a couple of short years ago Smith “Big” Buranastidporn applied for a job at Aussie Divers Phuket as a driver.

Recognizing Big’s talent beyond a driver staff gave the drivers job to someone else and a job to Big as…. well… we weren’t really sure.

What we did know at the time that Big was an excellent graphic artist. He designed the Aussie Divers Phuket logo that we use today.

As Aussie Divers Phuket do with all their staff that wish to, we gave Big the opportunity to learn to scuba dive.

Big turned out to be a natural under the water.

Big started to work his way through the scuba diving ranks. Doing his PADI Advanced Open Water Course, Emergency First Response and PADI Rescue Courses.

Being Thai, Big had to do the courses a little tougher than most. PADI only have the PADI Open Water Course translated to Thai and just recently the PADI Instructor manual. All other study materials were in English.

At the end of 2016 Big became a PADI Pro finally passing his PADI Divemaster course.

During this period Big laughed at being a professional victim. Big assisted on at least 17 PADI Rescue courses.

In October 2017 Big completed his PADI IDC along the way proving that he was a very good and competent instructor candidate.

On the weekend of the 14th – 15th October Big sat his PADI Instructor Examinations.

Big achieved excellent score and received praise from his fellow candidates, PADI Examiners and Aussie Divers Staff.

Not a bad effort for someone that applied to be a driver.

You too can become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, all you need is a little hard work and to do is follow the dream.

PADI Divemaster – Aaron Miller

PADI Divemaster - Aaron Miller I first discovered Aussie Divers when I was on vacation in Phuket back in December 2017. I made a spontaneous decision to try diving and signed up for the Open Water course. It was an amazing 3 days. My instructor was great; he made learning the equipment fun, and then we got into the big blue. As expected, I fell in love with my newfound underwater world! So glad that I took the plunge. But now I was hooked and needed more. Fast forward 2 years to December 2019. I had been living in Okinawa Japan, had 10 dives logged, and had completed my PADI Advanced Open Water and PADI Rescue Diver courses. As PADI [...]

Strategies to Help You Through PADI IDC Physics Exam

In all the years I have been involved in IDCs, the Physics exam is by far the most common “stress causer” that effects IDC candidates. Sadly often, it is the mere thought of doing Physics, even just the word that deters some candidates more so than their ability to answer the question. Often, when getting a question wrong the candidate will reply, “ I knew that, I don’t know why I didn’t do it”. A candidate could do that multiple times on an exam. The more times a student does that the more pressure builds for the next exam. The good news is that PADI does not expect you to be a physics professor. They just want you to [...]
