From Driver to PADI Instructor
Smith Buranastidporn
Just a couple of short years ago Smith “Big” Buranastidporn applied for a job at Aussie Divers Phuket as a driver.
Recognizing Big’s talent beyond a driver staff gave the drivers job to someone else and a job to Big as…. well… we weren’t really sure.
What we did know at the time that Big was an excellent graphic artist. He designed the Aussie Divers Phuket logo that we use today.
As Aussie Divers Phuket do with all their staff that wish to, we gave Big the opportunity to learn to scuba dive.
Big turned out to be a natural under the water.
Big started to work his way through the scuba diving ranks. Doing his PADI Advanced Open Water Course, Emergency First Response and PADI Rescue Courses.
Being Thai, Big had to do the courses a little tougher than most. PADI only have the PADI Open Water Course translated to Thai and just recently the PADI Instructor manual. All other study materials were in English.
At the end of 2016 Big became a PADI Pro finally passing his PADI Divemaster course.
During this period Big laughed at being a professional victim. Big assisted on at least 17 PADI Rescue courses.
In October 2017 Big completed his PADI IDC along the way proving that he was a very good and competent instructor candidate.
On the weekend of the 14th – 15th October Big sat his PADI Instructor Examinations.
Big achieved excellent score and received praise from his fellow candidates, PADI Examiners and Aussie Divers Staff.
Not a bad effort for someone that applied to be a driver.
You too can become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, all you need is a little hard work and to do is follow the dream.
