In 2019 Tanguy was tragically taken from us. He will be forever remembered as a great human and a generally wonderful person. It was an honour to have taught him his PADI Instructor Development Course and he was an outstanding student. He will be sadly missed and forever remembered by the Aussie Divers team. A very sad loss.

Darren Gaspari

PADI Open Water Instructor

I decided to become a dive instructor 3 years ago. I wanted out of the European stress and completely change lifestyle but I didn’t want to do that in a hurry or the cheapest and fastest way, what I wanted was a good diving education.
So after few years of practice, AOW, Rescue and DM course in Belgium, I started looking online for the right place to do my IDC….and it’s a dive center in Indonesia(kind of far from Phuket) who recommended me Aussie Divers Phuket.
I checked it out and after all the good critics I read (over 1000), I thought: This can only be a great place to do it. And I was right!!

After a long journey, I finally arrived and the team who was there made me feel like home straight away. I would even consider some of them as friends now.
You get free accommodation during your stay, and rooms are just above the classroom which is great.
English is not my first language so I was a bit worry to do all the course in English but Darren Gaspari, the owner and Course Director, made the classroom theory real smooth, he talks clearly, explain things in an easy way and he always has good and funny stories to tell, linked to course obviously.

When I first started, I was not good at oral presentation for instance but every day you have “homework”, you practice, you get feedback and every day you improve by so much. Same for the practical part in the pool.
After 2 weeks of intense training comes the IE weekend, of course I was stressed out but I think Darren was even more stressed than us. He really wants everyone to succeed, he takes it really personally and the results are there…we all succeed easily, I even get 5/5 on my oral presentation!

Anyway, I was very glad that I have chosen this 5 star dive center to do my IDC, I would recommend it without any hesitation and now that I started my dive career, I can tell this place is highly professional and that I would love to work for them maybe one day :)

Big thanks again to Darren, Ash, Nina, Simon and all the team who made this stay so enjoyable.

After a non-teaching gap of 20 years, I decided to re-certify as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor making me a bit of an unusual PADI IDC student. Having already been an instructor working professionally in the industry many many years ago, I knew that my relationship with my PADI Course Director was vitally important. Given that I have reached the grumpy old man stage of life, I also knew that I needed someone with not just significant dive industry experience but also some life experience. So I booked my Instructor Exams directly with PADI, then came to Phuket to look for the right man and the right PADI 5 star IDC Centre for the j [...]

PADI Divemaster – Aaron Miller

PADI Divemaster - Aaron Miller I first discovered Aussie Divers when I was on vacation in Phuket back in December 2017. I made a spontaneous decision to try diving and signed up for the Open Water course. It was an amazing 3 days. My instructor was great; he made learning the equipment fun, and then we got into the big blue. As expected, I fell in love with my newfound underwater world! So glad that I took the plunge. But now I was hooked and needed more. Fast forward 2 years to December 2019. I had been living in Okinawa Japan, had 10 dives logged, and had completed my PADI Advanced Open Water and PADI Rescue Diver courses. As PADI [...]

Aussie Divers Phuket PADI Instructor IDC Instructor Pro Diving Tips

Why is control important when you are a dive professional.

As a PADI professional and particularly as a PADI Instructor we hold a great deal of responsibility each time we take a student into the water, be it the swimming pool or open water. The onus is on the instructor to provide a safe dive and complete that dive or pool session with the student/s without incident. I believe that the core of being able to do that is good student/assistant and dive control. Here we will try and explain why control is so important when you are a dive professional. I sometimes hear the excuse of instructors “I told the student not to do that”. Instructors should not get into the habit of relying on ver [...]
